# Frequently Asked Questions

***

## The basics

**What exactly is Sectoral?**

It is a crypto neobank built around privacy, running on Robinhood Chain, the AI-native Ethereum Layer 2 from Robinhood. You get a self-custodied account for USDG and ETH where transfer amounts are encrypted by default, payments settle in the next block (about 100ms), and humans and AI agents have accounts alongside each other.

**Do I have to know how blockchains work?**

Not at all. Signing up takes an email address and a passkey, about as involved as turning on Face ID for any other app. Keys, encryption, and settlement all happen behind the scenes.

**Which currencies can it hold?**

USDG, the Global Dollar from Paxos that is issued natively on Robinhood Chain, plus bridged USDC. A small amount of ETH is maintained automatically to pay for gas, so you never have to think about network fees.

**Does it make me anonymous?**

No, and that is intentional. Your identity is verified when you open the account, and your address is visible on-chain. The private part is how much moves through the account: this is confidentiality rather than anonymity. [Our Regulatory Approach](/compliance-and-identity/regulatory-posture.md) covers why the difference matters.

## Using a personal account

**How do my amounts stay private?**

Transfers go through confidential token contracts, an ERC-20 with encrypted balances that stores amounts as ElGamal ciphertexts. Zero-knowledge proofs are created on your device and validated by a verifier on-chain. Only you and the other party can decrypt them. Read [How Amounts Stay Encrypted](/privacy-and-cryptography/encrypted-amounts.md) for the details.

**Can other people see my balance?**

No. On-chain, your balance is ciphertext that only your key can decrypt. An observer can tell that your address exists and has a balance, but never how large it is.

**What if a landlord or auditor needs proof of a payment?**

Create a disclosure proof for that single payment. It shows only what you decide, only to the person you decide, and nothing more. See [Showing Proof of a Payment](/privacy-and-cryptography/proving-a-payment.md).

**I lost my phone. What do I do?**

If your passkey syncs through iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager, you can sign in on another device and regain access straight away. A key you exported earlier works too. See [Keys and Account Recovery](/privacy-and-cryptography/keys-and-recovery.md).

**Is my transaction history kept in plaintext somewhere?**

Not by Sectoral. Your history is decrypted and displayed on your own device using your key, while the servers only handle ciphertext and public metadata. There is nothing on them that could leak.

## Building with agents

**What is an agent account?**

Every agent gets its own wallet on Robinhood Chain and an Agent ID that sits under a parent account. It spends according to a policy the parent sets: daily limits, approved recipients, hours, and an optional threshold above which approval is required. See [Wallets for Agents](/ai-agents/agent-wallets.md).

**Could an agent spend more than I allowed?**

No. Policy is checked before anything is signed instead of being reviewed later, so a transaction that breaks the rules is never built and there is nothing to clean up. See [Spend Policy Engine](/ai-agents/policy-engine.md).

**Does it support x402?**

Yes. Every agent account supports it natively. See [Paying with x402](/ai-agents/x402.md).

**How do I get notified when an agent pays someone?**

Subscribe to webhook events. The [Real-Time Event Stream](/ai-agents/event-stream.md) page and the [Webhooks API](/developer-api/webhooks.md) explain how.

**Can the API show me an agent's amounts?**

Only if you decrypt them on the client with your own key. The API never returns plaintext amounts, since the servers have no decryption key either. The guarantee holds end to end.

## Compliance questions

**Why does a privacy product need KYC?**

Because keeping amounts confidential is not the same as being anonymous. Amounts are hidden, but identities are not. Each account belongs to a verified person or entity, which is precisely what lets the product operate within the GENIUS Act framework and respond to lawful process when required.

**How are large or international payments handled?**

Once they exceed regulatory thresholds, they are subject to Travel Rule requirements, including counterparty screening. See [Verifying Identity](/compliance-and-identity/identity-verification.md).

**Is the code open source?**

The confidential transfer logic, meaning the token contracts and the on-chain verifier, is open source and can be audited on Robinhood Chain. The application layer (the app, backend, and indexer) remains closed source during beta.

***

## Pricing

**How much does a transfer cost?**

While the beta runs, Sectoral charges no fee at all. The only cost is Robinhood Chain gas, usually a fraction of a cent, which is taken automatically from your ETH float.

**Is there a charge for using the API?**

No, not while the beta runs. The post-beta revenue model includes a planned metered tier for high-volume agent traffic.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.sectoral.xyz/help/faq.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
