# Creating Your Account

Signing up is quick and requires no background knowledge. There are no recovery words to copy down, no special hardware to purchase, and no crypto experience needed. You get real self-custody in a form everyday people can manage.

***

## What you need

* A passkey-capable device, such as one with Face ID, Touch ID, or Windows Hello, or a hardware security key
* Your email address
* A government-issued ID

***

## Step by step

### 1. Sign up

Enter your email and create a passkey on your current device. Your Sectoral keypair is derived from that passkey, which gives you cryptographic self-custody without anything to write down or remember.

### 2. Verify your identity

Sectoral works within the GENIUS Act framework, so verification happens when the account is opened. Your activity stays private from the public while remaining accountable where the law requires it. Our verification provider will ask you for:

* A photo of your government ID
* A liveness check, which is a short selfie video

Completing basic verification gives you standard limits. Enhanced verification asks for more documents and lifts those limits, for both Personal and Business accounts.

### 3. Claim your handle

Choose a `@handle`. This is the name others use to reach you on the network, so nobody ever has to type out your raw EVM address. Details are in [Handles](/using-sectoral/handles.md).

### 4. Fund the account

Transfer USDG in from an exchange or another wallet, or use a linked bank transfer if it is available where you live. A small amount of ETH for gas is topped up for you automatically, so you never need to hold or manage ETH yourself.

## What gets created on-chain

Signing up sets up actual infrastructure in the background:

* A smart account address on Robinhood Chain, derived from your passkey
* A confidential USDG token account within Sectoral's contracts, which is what enables encrypted transfers
* A profile record stored off-chain that links your `@handle` to your public key, used only for lookups and display

No balances or transactions exist yet at this stage. Your first transfer is encrypted just like all later ones, because privacy is on from the start rather than something you enable afterward.

## Your account type

Every new signup starts as Personal. Businesses should pick Business while signing up to get shared access and higher limits. All three types, including Agent, are compared in [Account Types](/getting-started/choosing-an-account.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.sectoral.xyz/using-sectoral/opening-an-account.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
